Your Machines is a collection of tutorials and resources for working creatively with Free and Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) and related practices. It brings together contributions from artists, activists, community workers, and Linux advocates, all of whom use it within their work. Your Machines presents FLOSS not simply as a set of tools and applications but also as a way of working, which is reflected in the approach of many of the contributions.
The tutorials have all been written with the intention that they can be followed through as hands-on exercises, either by individuals on their own or as part of a workshop. Just as FLOSS developers share their code for others to use, the tutorials are intended as components that others can incorprate into their own workshops and projects. If you need to get a group of people quickly up to speed with basic audio or video editing, or making their own graphics, then the you'll find a suitable tutorial here.
As a bigger project, Your Machines, also involves getting people working and learning together collaboratively, and as part of this has run it's own workshops as well as help inform and initiate other projects, such as the Glasgow OpenLab group. Other offshoots have included helping to set up recycled media labs (or hacklabs) in Scotland. Some of this is documented in the projects section of the site.
The site itself will continue to evolve with new tutorials and projects adding to it as it goes.
