[click on image for an enlarged version] This workshop was presented by Peter George (Net Resources) and Simon Yuill and focused on desktop and creative tools. The day started with an overview of key concepts and history of FOSS, as well as a handout listing various tools suitable for creative work: slides from introduction handout Peter George then gave an introduction to Firefox (web browser), Thunderbird (email browser), the OpenOffice suite (writing and management tools), and the graphics tool GIMP: tutorial handout In the afternoon, Simon Yuill presented more graphical tools: SodiPodi (a scaled vector graphics drawing package), CinePaint (a tool for detailed graphics work on video and film material), and Blender (3D modelling and game authoring tool).
